Car repair estimate price? Good or not?

So i went in for the oil change on my car (99 Corolla) today and they guy tells me it is leaking oil from a gasket somewhere and the transmission fluid is black so this has to be done soon.I told him ill see if i can find a better price elsewhere and get back to him.Decent or too much? Here it is

Valve Cover Gasket $36.73
Labor On Gasket $70.00
Wash Engine $45.00
Transmission Serv $49.95
Transmission Filter $34.40
Transmission Conditioner $16.95
Total $253.03 + Tax

Re: Car repair estimate price? Good or not?

unless you wanted to do it yourself, which wouldnt be a bad idea, those are some pretty decent prices. dont forget the labor for everything else, too.

Valve cover is only 1/2 hour labor

wash the engine yourself a can of gunk is only four dollars

he's probably only going to change the fluid and not the filter no way to check unless you pull the pan off

personally i think conditioner is just bs

70 dollars for a few bolts

Just my $.02 worth.

btw... iv had horrible service from autoparts warehouse...

wanted to buy a transmission cooler for the van... they had like 6 different options.... each one said its an OEM ... they all had the same pictures... i called them up.... they swore up and down that one particular one was the actual OEM tranny cooler.... i said fine.... paid them,

i got it... it looked nothing like the broken one i took out of the van... i told them... they said im not a mechanic... and dont know what im talking about.... and refused to let me return it...

after a bunch of arguing... they let me return it... after a month never recieved the refund...

called back again... asked for the tracking number.... showed it to them.... and they finally gave it back...

...

i googled up the company.... others had similar complaints.

did you put a socket on the bolts yet? Valve cover bolt's CAN come loose every couple years, gasket might be okay.
