| Just a honky in the 305! | Out with the old...in with the new... So, the Lexus is gone. Kind of glad. But then it hit me. Right now, we have an Expedition the wife drives daily and I have an Explorer that is being "loaned" out to her aunt until further notice apparently. So, how am I going to pick the kids up from school if I don't have a car?! Well, I got a killer deal through my bank as they have a "car buying service" with pre-negotiated prices through various dealers. I picked up a 2008.5 Mazdaspeed3 for $23K out the door! The car's MSRP is $24,XXX. So I am stoked that I did everything OTD for $23K. No...I don't have pictures yet. Mainly because I am waiting on some stuff. But, if there are any car guys, Mazda claims power to be in the 260hp range...So this is definitely at the crank. The little 2.3L turbo I4 is potent though, even if it is boost limited in 1st and second gears to only ~10psi. From there, it is a nice 16psi. But, obviously with me, I am never happy with stock stuff, so I placed a SMALL order yesterday with a company and will be having my 3" turboback exhaust, front mount intercooler kit (comes with a top mount...HEAT SOAK), short ram intake, and HKS blow-off valve. I went with the turboback versus a catback because from what I have read, the downpipe is the most restrictive and changing just the downpipe yields a good 20hp. "Supposedly", with that small amount of mods, this will put the little Mazda to the 280-300 WHEEL hp mark. I am going to try to dyno it before the parts and then after. I am waiting on an engine management system so I can do some tuning but right now, I am not real concerned. The stock air/fuel is around 10.5:1 so it is pig rich. I don't see a FMIC and turbo back exhaust proving enough of a lean condition to get it past the turbo-unfriendly 12.0:1 range...But when the EMS comes in, I will be able to broaden the power band. Anyway, forgive me for my book. I am here at work and haven't really told anyone about the car yet. Kris |

Right now, my 4-5 month trip went down to 8 weeks. And my scheduled date to leave was the first week of June. Now, no one knows when I am leaving, for how long, or anything. So I am kind of just BLAH. The Lexus had to go as th kids are getting bigger. I WAS going to keep just the Explorer but I was told the the wife's aunt needs it a little longer (which to me means forever). So, I had to get a car and well, this was cheaper than the Lexus as I didn't lose money on it. The 600RR is ready to be shipped. The guy paid a deposit for it and if that does fall through, I am keeping it. I hope 8 weeks isn't too long for the bike to sit if I do keep it. For the 3, the wife can drive that while I am gone as I am pushing her to get rid of the Expedition b/c of gas. Oh well. | |
