Homestead Track Day Tips....

Hey guys and gals, some of you know me already....how's ya doin?

A couple of suggestions for the Homestead Track Day peeps that I noticed. Just a couple things to keep guys and gals safer.

1) THe concrete patches are slick as eel shit when its 50 degrees out. Just be careful that first session.

2) When there is a red flag.........Signal before rolling off the throttle. The guy behind you may not have seen the Red Flag yet. **********ALSO>>> Imagine that you are that rider waiting for everyone to get off the track. Imagine being in great pain, dirty, hot, pissed off, and wondering why your arm looks like an S. I've been that guy, and it sucks. Guys just need to know that race control usually can't roll medical until the track is clear, so get off the track as quickly and safely as you can. You are not doing him a favor by going extremely slow.

3) When entering the track..... Don't cut through the cones in turn 1. Doesn't matter if it is the first lap and noone is on track. People are watching and learning bad habits, and it is just a good habit to get into...doing it right everytime. I like to look over my right shoulder before getting to turn 2, to see if someone is coming through turn 1.

As you go through the apex of turn 2, follow the LEFT edge of the track towards turn 3. (You have to go VERY slow to go around turn 2 on the inside.) This allows the riders on track to pass you around the outside, should they get to turn 2 as you are entering the track. Look over your shoulder as you are on the left side of the track going towards turn 3. If it is clear, go for the race line.......

A couple times this weekend I had riders pull out of the pits right onto the race line in turn 2 going very slow. Very close calls and both riders would lose in that situation. If you pull out of the pits and someone is giving you the finger on the way to turn 3, you probably did it wrong

Hope everyone takes these tips as helpful. Just a couple tips that may save someone a crash. Hope everyone had fun this weekend. It was a blast for me. Helped 5 or so riders drop 5 seconds each. PRetty cool

Very good points. Especially #3 about getting out on to the track.

Re: Homestead Track Day Tips....

yea man, Stickied so please keep adding and updating your post man!!! Excellent!

Our sport is starting to really get a lot of newer riders (at least seems like it...) and hopefully they pay attention to these!

I have also been 'that guy' and damn it sucks! LOL

And pit out, yea! I told people over and over, they would go out and do it again!

Not only do you NOT cut through those cones but make believe they run all the way to T2!

Similar on Pit in guys.

Stay to the INSIDE this will allow the other faster riders to have plenty of room to go around you. And after T11 don't weave out onto the race line before pitting in.

I think I have some video of me during some close calls because of this one!

Re: Homestead Track Day Tips....

and if you ride a 250cc in the intermediate group it does not give you the right to thread that 12 inches of concrete between the rumble strips and another bike. if you are threading the corners, move up a class.

Re: Homestead Track Day Tips....

Thanks Sean for the tips, I had concerns about pit out after a few hot pits in the first couple of sessions. I wound up finding a control rider and asking him the correct way to enter a hot track. It was my first time @ homestead. May want to add this information to the Riders Meeting, I do not recall it being covered.

Or decide to pit-in 20' from the pit-in access when you are on the right side of the track. Damn near took me out......THANKS Got it on Video!!! Guess he missed the riders meeting............
