Afirst bike to try trackdays with?

What is the avg cost to build a allready owned bike to track conversion or buy a used trackday bike? I was leaning towards a sv650 or a 600 but Wanted others ideas.

$6.87

Scotch-Blue 2 In. X 60 Yds. Painter's Masking Tape For Multi-surfaces Blue - 2090-2J at The Home Depot

Until you try it and decide that you like it enough to invest, I wouldn't spend a dime more than that.

Re: Afirst bike to try trackdays with?

agreed...get your street bike track ready and test the waters. It doesn't happen often but there are people who just don't like track!

and even if you like it beyond getting a bike just for track...its freakin expensive. My first day I was told by no less then 12 guys that they got credit cards JUST for track days! n you won't be happy with just a local track...you'll have to try the next one...then move up to Tally or Rd Atl or Mid ohio...thats a week trip with driving and riding and driving...

Re: Afirst bike to try trackdays with?

if you are unsure then I don't think doing so is right. Money is the name of game on the track, hence why after the military I haven't yet got out for a track day again.

you want a bike....

$3-4000 for a solid set up bike to play with
$150-300 for the track day
$300-600 for tires
$all your shit. gear/stands/cooler/warmers etc etc $1000-2000
and not to mention trailing your shit up there along with food and gas...

stuff adds up...

Last track day/weekend I did ran be out of pocket a good $1000+ bucks easy and i was lucky! i didnt have to stay in a hotel and pay for that either...

good luck and save up....

ps sv650 or a 600 is a great tracker...

That's your correct answer.

You bring the bike you are most comfortable with. There is enough sensory overload for the first timer that the last thing you need to deal with is a new bike to learn.

I've been using my street bike for a year...with a beautiful custom paint job...14 track days this year. I JUST got track plastics on the 10-14th days...I ride novice...

for that matter my husband (in INT) went down pretty bad on his street bike and it was fixed in the time it took to find a stay for his left peg so even if you get off the bike the damage is USUALLY less than if you hit a curb, car, sign, mailbox, etc.

You don't need to buy a track only bike for your first track day. If you're concerned about the fairings, custom paint...spend $400 on plastics...but they're a pain in the butt to change out...

A big plus for buying a cheap set of race plastics. No need to even paint them. And if it turns out you don't use them again you can sell them for almost what you paid. OEM plastics are spendy to replace....
