Sunday's observations

Just some ramblings from my ride today.

Started out around noon & headed out to Everglades Holiday Park to see if anything was going on. Not too many folks there, mostly HD riders so I did a quick pass thru & off I went, rambling thru-out the north end of the county.

1) 1st observation: Gas prices are dropping. Before starting off on my ride, I hit my usual Mobil station- $2.65 for regular. As I rode around, especially on Oakland Park Blvd., I noted prices were lower practically everywhere I went. At numerous stations on OPB, I spotted $2.38 & $2.39 per gallon for regular at proper gas stations, like Texaco & Mobil. Shoot, I just dropped nearly 30 cents more a gallon!

2) I passed 2 other ZRX's today. One on W. OPB around Pine Island, the other on I-595, heading w-bound from University. I think the first ZRX I saw was my old bike. The current owner lives in Sunrise so it makes sense if it was him. The 2nd bike was a nicely modded a green 04 or 05. I spotted him first so I snuck up on him & we exchanged big thumbs up. Not too often you see a fellow ZRX'er anymore, much less 2 in one afternoon.

3) As usual, HD's were out in force. Now far be it from me to impose my thoughts on someone else but as a firm believer in ATGATT, I gotta wonder what is it w/these guys and not wearing ANY safety gear? When did muscle t's, shorts, sandals, flipflops and bandanas become harder than armor gear? Do HD's make you invulnerable from crashing, road rash & broken bones, not to mention the errant bumblee in your face? And I really shouldn't just include the HD folks (altho they were the majority of offenders) as I saw more than a few Jap bike riders exercising the same poor judgment. One fella on an R6 had his helmet strapped on the seat hook but was wearing a back protector. Uh what? No gloves, boots or other protective gear either. The organ donor pool ought to be plenty deep here in SoFla.

4) And continuing my rant on HD's: I'm sitting @ the light when I hear a modded HD coming up from behind- loud pipes, all black, rider dressed in ominous black tank, black jeans, boots (but no helmet, gloves or other safety garb.) Mutha looks bad-ass, right? Except he's got a stereo playing some kind of easy listening, soft rock, like an old Donnie & Marie Osmond song. It was all I could do to contain myself. Talk about blowing an image...badly.

5) The Mich PR2's are performing above any expectation I ever had of a bike tire. They are, bar none, the best bike tire I've ever used in 30+ years of riding & inspire unbelievable confidence in me.

6) Food- After a while, I became hungry & was thinking "mmmmmm, burritto." At the time, I was in the north end of Ft. Lauderdale & the only place I could think of was East Coast Burritto's on Commerical Blvd., just east of I-95. Great idea except they were CLOSED as were so many other small business type eateries. Actually, I was amazed @ how many food stops were closed on a SUN, all except the chain places (yuck.) How do you expect to make a living? I ended up @ an old fave, Jack's Hamburgers on N. Fed., & chowed down on a 1/2 lb'er w/cheese & A side of fries. MMMMmmmmmm good!

Ok, that's my SUN rant. Waddya got?

Re: Sunday's observations

my idea as to why most HD riders dont wear gear is the excuse i hear all the time....... we dont ride fast like you sport bike guys. they think because they ride "slow" that they are more protected. i never got that concept but hey let them think what they want.

and for some reason as of lately ive been eating alot at Five Guys burger joint. they have one at the publix plaza off 17th street causeway between federal and the bridge. never had a bad burger or fries from them yet. you should try them sometime.

Re: Sunday's observations

Fine writing Mister, more should exercise their right to do so.

Several of us headed to the Lake for breakfast and observed the same thing up here. Typical for alot of sportbikers to sit it out july-august because we wear all the gear, not all of us can take the heat. I feel naked without jacket, gloves, boots and helmet myself.

Harley folks ride to look cool, thats why they wear sleeveless leather and no helmet. Many Harley owners have more money invested in Harley Garb than we do in our bikes, if you ever visit a "Bikers" home you will see H.D. shit everyplace from the front door mat to the back porch. They even use H.D. Toilet Paper.

Re: Sunday's observations

Showed up to a group ride at 9am to find that the other 6 people didn't eat yet, so the ride didn't start till 10ish (missing out on an extra hour of sleep after being out all night watching UFC fight). We rode all over Broward County in what felt like 1,000 degree heat. Had some battery issues but all was good. On way back to Boca solo on Sawgrass I passed a guy on GSX'r 1000 and a girl on HD I think. He was in full gear, she was not wearing anything but sunglasses. Guess he wanted to ride since he left her and passed me back and we played tag for a bit. Then two other dudes on 1000's flew by and they all turned it on and left me by myself doin 150 slowly losing sight. Could've made a better attempt but after riding with the engine at 220+ degrees for 4 hours already I didn't want to fight a losing battle. Anyways, I pull up about 1/2 mi before exit and who comes roaring by, chick on HD doin prob 120. Imagine gettin hit with a rock flyin up in the face doin 120. Home by 1:30pm and passed out for the best 30 minute nap ever! Woke up, took my girl to Extreme Karting in Ft Laud and spent the entire 8 minute session trying to kill some asshole who put my girl into the wall at 35mph b/c he didn't know you had use the breaks on tight turns! It was a good Sunday.

Re: Sunday's observations

I got a phone call from my friend Rafeal, who wanted to go for a ride...

So, I went to his house, as he was pulling out the CBR, and we went to (Can't remember the name) a Cuban resturant spot, and had breakfast.

Then went by another firend house to look, at the new additions to his custom built bike, including a sick gas tank. (I'll try an postpics)

Then went bakc to his house to give Betsy an oil change ! Also, cleaned off the inside of the fairings, top off the fluids, and painted the stator cover...

Then jump on the bike, and went to Dania Beach, to spend some time with the little lady. We swam and hung out for about 2 hours. Then rode to her house, hung there for anotehr hour. Then went home and showed...

Got another call from Tafeal to go riding.... So, went back to his house, as he was pulling out the bike. We rode up to Ft. Lauderdale Beach, and lapped it a few times, before heading down Las Olas (Dead) so we jump on I-95 and headed to downtown Hollywood, and had Pizza. (OH !!! There I was the most beatiful woman, behind the counter - 5'3" 120 pounds, latina, with a body to kill/die for... ) And she's a sweetie, with that girl next door feel... I think I have locate a new favorite spot.

Rode with Rafeal to Hollywood & 24th, and then we split... I went and parked the bike, and jumped in the car and headed home...

A very nice day IMHO...

Re: Sunday's observations

I know it's been hot but for some reason, the heat ain't been bothering me too much. Drove past one sign y-day that indicated 96 degrees but so longas I was moving, I didn't find it onerous at all.
