| Forum Addict | Miami is under surprise construction AGAIN! (and a nice story to go along with it) This was a funny surprise which shows that Speed doesn't always get you there faster... Went riding in a group of 6 on Sunday morning from Laud airport to Miami Beach. 4 advanced riders (not on this site), 1 ballsy newbie (me), and 1 smarter newbie (Kona10). 5 of us maintained an average speed or 105-115mph in light traffic from the moment we got on I-95. Kona10 was smart and riding at his comfortable level strayed behind at an average of 80-90mph not wanting to cut through traffic too fast. So we get down to the I-195 causeway for Miami Beach and once you get to a point that you can't turn back...SURPRISE!!! Access to the highway is completely blocked! So we had to stop for a moment to arrange a detour with 5 riders and ended up taking NW 36th St East to the causeway. HOT AS BALLS since it was a single lane for like 30+ blocks AND that street had construction too! Big surprise...thank you Miami again! So when we finally jumped on the causeway we opened throttle and gunner it to get a good breeze. The interesting part came when we are reaching the end of the causeway and lo-and-behold who do we fly by???......Kona10 still maintaining his nice and comfy speed. He joined back into formation and we made it to our destination for breakfast (Van Dykes on Lincoln) all together. He ended up having to take a detour also but he took it slower and followed the obscure "Detour to I-95" signs he surprisingly found along the way. So he got back onto the highway without having to go through NW 36th St. So moral of the story...Speed doesn't always get you there faster (but it's definitely "funner"). And MIAMI CONSTRUCTION SUCKS!!! Barely any heads-up notice and once you're stuck, you're stuck! NOTICE - Sealed sections for now (that I know of): Eastbound ramp for I-195 (to beach & US-1) from Southbound I-95 (from the North) is blocked! Westbound entrance going through to SR-112 (to airport) from Westbound I-195 (from beach) is blocked! There in nighttime construction (not blocked) on I-95 Southbound in the same area under the I-195/SR-112 interchange. |

So far, my personal opinion is some people ride to dangerous for beginners and some people ride to boring for experienced riders...but they ride thier own ride which is key |

(and a nice story to go along with it These are the current projects that I know of: I-95: widening highway at SR112 and I-195/Julia Tuttle. They are raising the exit ramps to the Beach and Airport and are adding 2 lanes for the express lanes. Julia Tuttle: milling and resurfacing JFK causeway/79th street: fixing the bridge Venetian Causeway: replacing bridges altogether. There are other places as well, but check out MDX or FDOT for the details. Most of the major work is at night, and not during rush hour, but there may be lane closures at other times. Seth |

1) this is the time of year with the least events/traffic so they are impacting everyone the least 2) they said do it all at once, or be in construction forever as they chain each project one after the other. Seth | |
