I'm one of the few who don't see a problem with starting out on 600 as long as your careful and don't get ahead of yourself. BUT i don't don't think you should be going with a new bike. I don't want to f myself by beeing too confident(i'm a little superstitous when it comes to riding haha) but i have yet too have and problems with the concrete. Most new riders on the other hand do drop their bike pretty quick, and on a new bike would absolutely kill me...

The other thing is you better be planning on keeping it for awhile if you buy new...why not avoid the lost money till your ready for somethin you'll gonna hang on to like a 750 or 1000? I say look for a 00-04? You can find a used cbr for under $5k.

well see thats just it. was going to go used but im able to get a new one at invoice. so why not just pay $2k more and get a brand new bike? and know that you are not getting some ragged out peice of @#%& that wont last a month? i'd have to absolutely steal a used bike thats in GREAT condition at this point in order to buy used. and i really cant see myself on anymore then a 600, it does everything i want a bike to do. hope to be on the road in a couple weeks! see you soon! :D

All the six hundreds are about the same, get stupid on any, and youll
get to ride in the back of the noisey truck with all the lights and sirens.

Get what you really want and what feals good, and My only advice too you is good protection and Frame sliders, You Will Drop It, very soon.

Snow will tell you there are two kinds of riders. Those that have crashed and/or dropped their bikes and those that are waiting to crash/drop their bike.

You can never out grow a 600 (let the shit fly for that statement) Get the GSXR 600 since you sat on it and liked it better, but have you sat on any other bikes??? The 636 is a great bike as well as the R6. Definatly get frame sliders first thing dont leave the dealer with out them. You are a first time rider and you compound the problem of a "new to you bike" by being a first time rider. Most of the motorcycle only accidents happen with in six months of the purchase of the bike crashed. All that said have fun.
