DIY camera mount < $15

Flat aluminum stock 18x1x1/8
Misc bolts/washers
Time to kill

Rear mounts to a single screw in the filler cap ring, neoprene washers absorb the small vibes. All cameras are threaded 1/4x20 so I found a knob at Ace Hardware that threads in from the bottom, more neoprene washers top and bottom there as well as a lock washer to keep it from backing out. About 3/4" clearance to the tank at the knob.

Front mounts to the forward gas tank mount. A little bracket keeps everything up and out of the way. Absolutely no part of the camera mount touches metal or paint, it's all suspended by rubber or neoprene. And it's all removable without a trace.

I can see all the gauges perfectly and theres no interference with the steering or balance. I can even manage a mild tuck with the stock windscreen before touching the camera. I used an old Sony cam to mock it up, a smaller camera will leave an even smaller footprint.

I'm waiting for the weather to clear so I can test it and make some tweaks like cutting off excess corners and maybe paint it or polish it so it doesn't look so 'hardware store'.

Re: DIY camera mount < $15

My old Sony camera is practically worthless now, so I'm not worried.

I also found a company called ChaseCam that has a triple suction mount and claims 75lb holding strength.

Sportbikecam.com makes a solid camera mount that works very well.

Yes, I had just about hit the Submit Order button when I decided I would make my own and save myself $75 to put toward gas :)

I hear that but I am too busy/lazy to build my own.

So, how much free time do you have?

Would be willing to make me one and how much would it cost me?

Re: DIY camera mount < $15

I took the week off work so I've got TOO MUCH free time until Saturday :)

I could build you one, but I'd need to bike for about 2 days to get the angles just right. For that just buy the $17 suction mount, it should be strong enough.

Dave, looks good. I did the same thing.. it's called being to poor to buy the good shit, and having too much time on your hands, lol

$8 worth of parts, and 3 hours time with hand tools..

slightly adjustable, and simplistic

I like yours though.. looks pretty steady.
