What Sprockets To Go With???

I want to get some more pull out of the Kawi. It's slow as fuck! I'm dropping a tooth in the front to a 14t. I'm thinking I should go up in the rear too. Stock is 40t. Both are 525 and I'm not all that interested in doing a 520 conversion. So should I go more than 2t up in the rear? How much top end am I gonna lose?

Re: What Sprockets To Go With???

You won't feel much by going 1 up. 2 up and you should feel something. Get stealth sprocket. You'll probably lose something like 10 mph top end.

Re: What Sprockets To Go With???

I want to feel a lot though. I don't think I was even hitting 130 on the front straight at Homestead. I just changed the rear spring, and the bike feels really good, it's just got no power. I want to change the sprokets and give it a chance at Jennings. I was turning 1:31's on it with the old stock rear spring, so I figure with the new spring, I can probably break 1:30....and if I can get some extra power with new sprockets, I should be able to do even better.

Re: What Sprockets To Go With???

I run one down in the front and the stock 40 in the rear. I also tried one down in the front and 2 up in the rear at Jennings, and I think it was too much. The next trip there, I am going to switch during the day and compare times.

Re: What Sprockets To Go With???

Stock on my bike is 16/42. Right now on the street Im running 16/43 but for Homestead Im going to change to 15/43. Should be a nice increase in pulling harder and also still obtaining top end. Also have a 1000 though!

I have heard that you should be hitting the top of your highest gear at the end of the longest straight. Is this true? With one down in front and 2 up in the back at Jennings, I do get to sixth on the back, but it doesn't seem to help with over all lap times. I really want to compare -1/40 to -1/+2 back to back to see if my seat of the pants dyno is calibrated correctly.

I feel the same way. I don't think the top speed is really taking that much away. I want more pull out of the turns, and more power to pass people on the straights. It's very frustrating to pass a lesser rider in a turn, only to have them come back around you in the straights. I may just go -1t in the front right now cause I know I won't need a new chain.

Re: What Sprockets To Go With???

I found a great article about it, but I may be too dumb to completely use all the info.
