Gun Bans Kill.....

link: http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=59027

This really sux... my best friend just moved to DC to attend American University (Law school)... I hope nobody pulls something like this on him......

Gun Bans Kill; D.C. Newsman Is Latest Victim, So It's News, Says CCRKBA

1/9/2006 3:28:00 PM

To: National and State desks

Contact: Alan Gottlieb of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, 425-454-4911; Web: http://www.ccrkba.org

BELLEVUE, Wash., Jan. 9 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The District of Columbia's gun ban has claimed another victim, and this time a veteran newsman has died, all because criminals know citizens in the nation's capitol cannot fight back, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of veteran New York Times reporter and editor David E. Rosenbaum, who died Sunday from injuries he suffered during a brutal robbery Friday night near his home in northwest Washington, D.C.," said CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb, who is also publisher of Gun Week, a nationally circulated firearms newspaper. "We cannot know whether Mr. Rosenbaum would ever have kept a gun for personal protection, but we do know that every law-abiding citizen now living in the District can't. And we also know that for years, criminals have taken advantage of this environment of public disarmament, as hungry wolves prey on defenseless sheep.

"How many more victims of the District's gun ban will it take," Gottlieb wondered, "before common sense once again returns to the city? By all accounts, Mr. Rosenbaum was minding his own business, as have so many previous victims of violent thugs, when he was savagely beaten and robbed. His slaying will get plenty of attention, as it already has from the Washington Post, because of his stature and his professional background.

"But what about all the other victims, whose names have largely been forgotten," Gottlieb continued. "Because criminals in the District have known for years that the public was legally disarmed, they've become bolder. They know that the odds are all in their favor, that in a victim disarmament zone like Washington, they won't be facing a legally-armed citizen the next time they want to rob and kill. It is an outrage that city officials so callously defend this gun ban, while the body count of innocent victims continues to pile up.

"How sad and pitiful it is," Gottlieb concluded, "that the New York Times has a record of supporting every deplorable, restrictive, anti-self defense gun law that ever came along; laws that disarm good people while doing nothing to stop the bad ones. These are the kinds of laws that have created risk-free working conditions for murderous predators in the District of Columbia, and ultimately, it is decent, honorable people like David Rosenbaum who so often pay the price for such despicable public policy."

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms -- http://www.ccrkba.org -- is one of the nation's premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.

gun bans do kill. If the only people that have guns are criminals then crime has an advantage. Most criminals i know will think twice before trying to break into and/or rob someone on the street if they risk there life to do so. this why i am happy to live in this state. Recent interpertation of the new law (since the president has yet to be set to my knowledge) which has it reading similar to the effect of if you are commiting a crime i now have the right to assume you are armed and can shoot you first. Think about it the next time (for the crooks) you have someone at knife point or better and they reach for thier wallet and then you are staring down the barrel of a human killing calibured weapon that has the right to shoot first then ask if you are armed. Does anyone know if the crime rate has dropped in florida at all since this law has come into effect? I do know the media hasnt said it is increasing yet.

Preaching to the choir in Florida, my friend. Another reason why DC is the cesspool it is. Oh well, I never go anywhere without the Kimber, so I'm good, and I only travel to states that offer CCP reciprocity...

bmxr, now as far as registering your piece come now possetion of an unregistered gun is completely out of the question. You #1 have no idea what the gun has been used for i.e. murder, robbery, beating on the kids? and then #2 haveing an unregistered fire arm simply put is a fedral felony not sure of the consiquenses. I say just get the permit to carry and buy one especialy here in florida where it is shoot first ask questions later. None of this is meant to be taken as legal interpertation or advise. thank you

You are not legally required to register your guns... if you sell it to a private party, a signed waiver that I sold it to Joe Blow is all I need to get myself scott-free of whatever Joe Blow does with the firearm...

I wouldn't want Big Brother knowing how many I own... That's just me..

true. but i wouldnt concern myself with what the guy i sell to does with the gun if properly sold, i would be concerned with what johnny the homocidal maniac did with the unregistered gun that i just bought from him that he just had me sign a waiver saying i am now responcible for the piece. Thats all i am saying. Private sales though cheep and not registered are very risky.
