| ScrewFace Racing #521 | Sunday Homestead Report Sunday morning Steve arrived at Casey’s place and again we were off to complete the weekend. Not having any more coffee, we were forced to stop at Wendy’s in Homestead for breakfast. If you ever find the need to stop there on the way to the track, please remember to check half of your brain at the door before ordering otherwise you will out-think the service people there and not have a great start to our day… At the track, Don (Sean’s father) arrived early to help us out. He and Sean’s mom Debbie are at a lot of the events and they are some of the nicest people I have ever met! There were quite a few others who showed their support this weekend as well. Bicho, MotoPhil, Adolpho, Anna, Bambo, Steve, Jarvis, GKGSXR78, TriDuc, SoFlaSV and of course Gummo was there promoting the following weekend track day at Homestead. We did the morning practice and got into the days groove pretty quickly, scrubbing in the new tires and psychologically getting ready to take on the day. KWTaxi and Mike were in race#2, Am. GTO. They both did well, finished upright and were happy with their performances. We watched from the pits as well as turn 3 routing them on throughout the race. I think this is Shawn and Mikes first time at Homestead and it looks like it wont be their last either. Race#5 was Am. GTU. This is the only race where Sean Casey and I get to run together. Sean started from the front row, Casey on the inside of row 2 and I was in row 4. We all got a good start and there were no incidents through turn 1. As expected, Sean and Casey took off like bats out of Hell. #422 and #181 were up front with Sean in 3rd followed by Casey in 4th. About the 7th lap, Sean was driving hard for that 2nd position and he lost the front end in turn 3, the same exact spot where I was rear ended last month!! He was flailing around in disgust about the unfortunate get off, looked more like a kid who had his candy taken from him by mom in the grocery store. Damn that was bad luck and I truly am sorry he crashed out as he was doing so well. Casey got hung up in some lap-traffic and while getting boxed in, 7 bikes were able to slide by him and he ended up finishing in about 13th position. Race #9, Am Middle Weight SuperSport. Again Sean and Casey were out in front and got great starts! This is only a 6 lap race and from the get go, they were running 4th & 5th! By lap 5, one of the bikes worked its way up from the back of the pack and reeled in Casey passing him like he was sitting still. Then he went to work on Sean. The duked it out for the remainder of the race, eventually getting by Sean but he re-passed on the last lap. Finally the other rider out powered Sean and pushed him back into 5th place, Casey ended up in 7th. Race# 13 was my Formula 40. I was so hoping to do well in this race as the point people had me tied for the lead and it is the most important race to me. I was starting in the front row of the amateurs and got a great hole shot! By the end of the first lap I was happy with my position and just needed to keep focused for the remainder of the race. Then it happened…the event that would bring me back in. My shift lever came loose and the bike was stuck in either 2nd or 3rd gears. Once shifted into 3rd, it would not go any higher and once back into 2nd it would go no lower. DAMN the bad luck!! After 3 lap I was getting passed by everyone as my top speed was not very high considering there were no higher gear options for me. I was a danger to the other riders so I brought the bike back into the pits and my day was done. Race #15 Middle Weight Super Bike. Sean picked this one up to get some more track time and with the way the Super Bikes are set up as opposed to the Super Sport he might be able to follow around some really fast guys and increase his times. As it turned out he finished in 7th place, kept it upright and got some much needed seat time. He was even able to get his lap times down to a VERY respectable 1:33!!! Go Sean!! Race #18, Middle Weight GP was Sean’s final race of the day. This was another race which he has never run before but again more seat time on the track. Unfortunately his bike shut off right as he was entering into turn one so he came in and took the DNF. On the way home, Jarvis got a flat tire on his bike and called us as we were getting into Miramar....he was all the way back at exit 13 on the turnpike!! I grabbed a Canyon Dancer, some straps and a ramp. It took some time to get back down to him but I got there and got him home at a decent hour. Vicki cooked dinner for us and we hung out until midnight b.s.ing with Steve and Bambo. That’s about the whole weekend. I really do hope that many of you will chose to come out to the track days which are being held here this summer and maybe even get a license and get out on the track for some competition racing, too! It really is a great family we have! Again, a special thanks to all who came out to see the races and support us. It makes for a great time and truly gets us going!

This weekend it was especially great. After my crash I was in a piss-poor mood and the adrenaline made my thinking process kind of foggy. My Dad, Curb and Jarvis pretty much took over. They got the bike unloaded from the crash truck, ripped the broken stuff off, cleaned out the gravel, redneck engineered a new psuedo windscreen/number plate and had me ready to ride again with plenty of time to spare. I can't thank you guys enough! ![]()
