Did put some oil on the o-ring that contacts the block? This is one of the most important steps to getting it off easily

I usually do the screwdriver through the filer for a stubborn filter. however, try using sandpaper between the filter and wrench for added friction.

or use a K&N filter. they have a nut on the end of them. its not as much fun as a screw driver though. :)

Sears has rubber strap wrenches. Kind of like the oil filter wrench, but more adjustable for sizes

Yeah, it's old, but he did throw in a couple of good points. I've found those rubber strap "wrenches" don't work worth a damn. I'll have to give it try with the sand paper though.
