mkv encoding? (samsung TV)

I have this samsung tv that has a built in media player via USB or LAN

anyways, it plays all my non HD content (torrent) from my HDD, no issues.

I downloaded a few 720p MKV's and they wont work, "file not supported" or "codec not supported"

the manual has a list of supported file types, MKV container is supported, but the video codec MKV AVCHD is listed as not supported. Does this mean that most of the HD torrents floating around wont work with samsung's media player?

if so, should I re-encode the files to a supported MKV codec?.. is it possible?... and is it time efficient?..

I dont have any experience with this stuff, I tried using handbrake, and it wanted about 3 hours to re-encode a 800mb 30minute 720p TV show... I hit cancel on that.

is there an easy way to make it work through samsung's own media player?...

or is hooking up a computer directly to the TV or getting a WDTV+HDD the best option for me?

using the built in player would be the most convenient option in my opinion... no extra remote, decent GUI, everything works seemless with non HD.. I dont have to constantly hook up my laptop each time I want to watch something.

Re: mkv encoding? (samsung TV)

My Samsung seems to like MP4, see if you can retrieve your torrents in that format.

Re: mkv encoding? (samsung TV)

Re-encoding stuff takes hours depending on CPU power and other hardware variables. I think in your situation, hooking up the computer to the TV might be the best option. Last option might be to see if there is a firmware upgrade for your player, sometimes they add support through those updates.

Shit this thread is 6 months old.
